Sodexho Travails
How do you people finish your Sodexho coupons/cards?

I seem to be stuck with thousands in Sodexho coupons and don't seem to be making any progress spending any of it eating idlis in the local cafetaria. Can't I just buy a TV or something? :-/

I used to give it to my mum. She'd use it in Food World to buy groceries.

Can I borrow your mum for a while? I could use the home cooked food too. I promise to be a good (temporary) son. :)

They can be used at many places.. grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Strange that you have trouble finishing them!

It's cause I never remember to take them anywhere or decide on purchases based on that.

I want some way to finish them all at one go.

hehe. I wouldn't think a person who likes eating out would have any trouble finishing them off! Personally if I have trouble with finishing them off (which is rare) I go splurge in Pizza Hut or Casa Picola.

But Pizza Hut doesn't accept Sodexho. My sister checked. I didn't like Casa Picola the one time I tried it.

Chung's accepts but I can't eat that fried rice more than once a week.

So I'm eating a Subway Daily Combo everyday. But even that would mean I only break even for the current month.

Foodworld is my last hope I guess.

Some of the Pizza Huts accept, not all. Find one that accepts... afaik, the one in Koramangala accepts (think thats close to your office too).

All the places in Forum Transit accept.

Sodexho buggers charge 7.5% from the merchant as well as the company giving it to empoloyees. Now you know why so few places accept them. It's a big percentage to take out of your sale.

15% cut, that's insane! How can they get away with it?

And why are they tax free?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]themadman
2007-07-18 07:59 am UTC (link)
Well... some establishments consider it a good business decision to accept them. Longer answer some other time. As for the employers, they get to give employees a tax-free perk.

They are tax free only up to a limit. There is a "lunch allowance" of Rs. 800 per month (last time I checked) that is tax free. These vouchers are given for the purpose of "lunch" and to that extent they're tax free. Vouchers beyond the limit are taxable. So some stores have notices saying that vouchers can only be used to buy food items.

I remember getting rid of tons of Sodexho booklets by paying for domino's pizzas (home delivery). You do need to tell them beforehand on the phone that that's how you will be paying for it and how much change you expect in return. Then, there's always Food World.

Of course, if you have good malyali contacts ask them for those malyali stores which accept Sodexho for anything and everything. Someone's aunt or cousin had managed to get a new TV! But considering the expiry date, it was easier eating pizzas every weekend.

Ah this Malyali guy is just what I need! I have a ton of them accumulated and I need to furnish a new house anyway. And there's only so much food one can eat considering health and diet and all.

i use it at the supermarkets. And they take it for everything not just food. But yeah, it's such a pain getting rid of them. i have also got a whole load of these, and since i'm not in bangalore, it's being spent only on groceries (thats when my mom remembers). They are such a waste! i end up being forced to spend that whole amount on food and groceries.

Many mid-range seafood restaurants in Bombay accept Sodexho coupons. I had no trouble using up my monthly quota of Rs 1300. You could also check if Garcia's Pizza accepts them.
